Winged is a part of the "cake" body of work. A winged dog sits atop of a globe, symbolising their departure to Sirius. Winged creatures appear in my work often. They symbolise freedom in all forms. The freedom to explore, the freedom to express and of course the freedom of our spirits when we depart this earth. It is a whimsical piece, and can be functional or decorative. It is made from white clay, the body and lid are wheel thrown and the additions are all hand built. It is simply fired with a white matt glaze and then fired again with a blue lustre which is applied through a dipping process allowing the lustre to form it's own patterns.

These whimsical sculptural works were inspired by my love of cakes, especially as symbols of love and care - after all, cales are usually celebratory things. The cakes also reflect the symbols in my paintings - fish are often used to symbolise properity, abundance and good fortune, which makes for a perfect gift for someone you love . You can place another gift on the plate to be revealed when you lift the top up (I've used a ceramic apple to demonstrate ths in the photo)

Birthday Cake could be two gifts as one. It is very simple and whimsical: s chocolate cake decorated with candles, and the candle flames are lustred in gold. It is the cake you can have without eating it!
My idea for this style of cake was to have the body be the wrapping for a gift hidden inside, but it can also be a simple and decorative sculptural piece or secret hiding place for something precious.
Under the chocolate glaze is an ironstone clay. The plate is made from a white clay, as are the candles. They are fired to stoneware, and then a second firing for the lustre. It is real gold! The plate is simply painted in red and white underglaze and glazed clear.
Plate measurements 20 cm diameter x 2 cm high at rim

Tea and Cake is both a wheel thrown and handbuilt pot, in porcelain. It is glazed clear on the outside and has a velvet red unglazed inside. It is both functional and decorative.
This piece is from a body of work using cakes as form and a stage, on which I place symbols from my paintings, as part of my wish to have my paintings represented in my ceramics (and vice versa!).
If you require more photos, please let me know. Postage within Australia is included in the price. Please contact me for overseas shipping.

Spaceship Lantern is made from white clay, glazed to stoneware on the outside with a burnished palladium glaze, on the inside with light turquoise underglaze. The body is wheel thrown, and the feet are hand built.
Designed to hold a candle or solar light (better, because a candle will make soot), it is a quirky and whimsical object. It would make a great gift for someone.
